Feather Beds – Play Dead

Wednesday 18th May, 2016

They Say: “With regard to the track, what went into it and it’s influences, there's lots of melodic, counter-rhythmic stuff in there. It's in 7/8 time, I've always enjoyed experimenting with odd / awkward time signature stuff, but I always seem to try and do it in a 'pop' sort of way, to try and reign it in and not be too indulgent. I experimented with a lot of vocal + drum parts and we played around with the arrangement until we were happy with it. Stephen Shannon mixed it (he's mixing the full album) and he's been brilliant to work with. In terms of influences, loads of things, but maybe the likes of Cornelius, Steve Reich and The Field were the kind of thing we spoke about with this track.”

We Say: “Michael Orange rallies expectations for the second album with this piece of swoon, whimsy and awe. The comparisons to boy-poets like Sufjan Stevens are well-deserved.”

‘Play Dead’ is the new single from Feather Beds forthcoming album - which is due for release in 2017 – and follows on from the debut release ‘The Skeletal System’.
