This week, The Arts Show’s Steven Rainey joined Rigsy and Stu in studio to chat about some of their favourite new tracks.
Keian – Quietly
Steven: “I just loved this from the second it started. There’s this beautiful warm electric piano, then loads of texture. You can tell he’s got the production thing nailed down, but he’s also a really good song writer – and a great singer as well… This is really, really intelligent beautifully made pop music, and it’s the kind of thing, the second it finished you wanna hear it again.”
Teddy Charles JR – Love Is
Stu: “He’s got an album called ‘6+1’ which is kind of Mark Lanegan, in a dark fuzz folk noir.”
Ciaran Lavery – Sophomore Rising
Steven: “He’s just fantastic… he’s prolific, he’s talented - the guy can’t write a bad song. Everything he’s done to my ears had been superb.”
Stu: “I kind of adore him.”
Invaderband – Attack Of The Pod People
Steven: “The second I heard it it caught my ear. It’s just a load of weird strangeness.. you say you can’t really judge a book by its cover but I think you can judge a song by it’s title and ‘Attack Of The Pod People’ was always gonna be something I was going to listen to. There’s like vibes of ‘Wire’ or even a bit of ‘The Fall’ hanging around the edges of this.”
Swimmers –Lose Myself
Rigsy: “Straight up indie pop, nice big chorus, nice big hook… you don’t hear enough of this type of stuff these days... Kind of a shimmer to the production. This is a pretty instant song.”
Stu: “Remember ‘Lightning Seeds’? – it kind of reminds me of them, a very pure pop song.”
Mindriot mt – Boyz of the Tomahawk
Steven: “Just listen to that bass line; it’s greasy, it’s deep – you could fry eggs on it, if you were so inclined… like a nastier, dirtier ‘Pearl Jam’. It just sounds supremely confident.”
Tyrannasonic Deaf Rays - Jigsaw
Rigsy: “A lot of hype about their live show… playing in confidence with this track. Not often you hear big big riffs with a little dink xylophone in there as well… it will be good fun watching this lot develop – really fun ideas in there.”
