Lock up your 101 dalmatians, Kynsy has shed her darker Billie Eilish coloured roots and bloomed into a fully fledged pop star on new single ‘Mr Nice Guy’, released today.
‘Mr Nice Guy’ is a punchy blast of love-weary pop, with Kynsy crooning over massive strings and a danceable beat. The track arrives with an equally vibrant video, directed by Dave Fox & Conor Donoghu, in which Kynsy plays a Cruella de Vil character hellbent on keeping her two servants locked inside a house of horrors.
The music matches the video’s intensity, a side to Kynsey not explored on her previous releases. We hear riffs that border on jaggy, and synths that smooth over the cracks to push ‘Mr Nice Guy’ firmly in the ‘future Fifa banger’ camp. Ask any teenager above the age of 16, and they’ll tell you just how much of a compliment that is. While there’s no news of further releases to come yet, there’s hope that this is the first step into Kynsy’s next musical chapter.
Kynsy’s debut EP ‘Things That Don't Exist’ arrived in January of this year to acclaim, leading her to being chosen for a spot on the Introducing Stage at Radio 1’s Big Weekend.
