Best Boy Grip - Reptile

Friday 24th February, 2017

They say:
“‘Reptile’ is Best Boy Grip’s follow up to ‘Fukushima’. I was worried about the change of direction production wise but when Fukushima got picked up by BBC 6Music as well as the stations closer to home, my worries went away. Lyrically, both Fukushima and now Reptile, were always going to be Best Boy Grip songs.

They have the kinda quirkiness that I seem to revel in. I’ve been enjoying getting adventurous with production and have started using an MPC1000 in live sets to try to replicate what I’m doing in the studio. I’m using it to trigger samples from the master stems to give me a bigger live sound.

I was listening to a bunch of old records and started trying to recreate their sound but with a modern twist. I kinda got bored of the solo piano thing. I’m sure when the right piano song comes along, I’ll return to it. Ya just gotta make what comes out and hope people dig it.

We say: “‘Reptile’ is a very interesting change of pace for Best Boy Grip. Eoin’s experimental side started to show with ‘Fukushima’ and whilst we loved his piano rock in the shape of the likes of ‘Barbara’ and ‘Billy’, we really dig the direction he’s moving in now.

‘Reptile’ has so many different levels and moods to it, it’s always good to see an artist moving forward and trying new things like Best Boy Grip.

Vocally this has to be one of Eoin’s most enjoyable songs, the creativity on display is incredible and you need a few repeat listens to appreciate the effort and craft within this song. Oh and that bass line, unreal.”

‘Reptile’ released on February 24th via Amelia Records on 7” Vinyl and is available to stream for free now.

As often as possible Across the Line aims to bring you a great new, recent or interesting track each day, Monday to Friday. To get your new music to Across the Line send it via the BBC Introducing Uploader.
