The first record I remember being excited about and getting my big sister to go and buy for me would be Musical Youth, 'Pass the Dutchie', I was pretty young at the time and I think I liked the fact that there was a really young kid like me in the band. It wasn’t a drugs thing, I was 5.
The latest album I bought was MUSE ‘The New Law’. I’m not a massive fan, it was on offer in a supermarket when I was out shoppin with the Mrs. Its not bad, but they’ve done better.
Seeing Therapy? playing in the Ulster Hall in 1992 (I think. pos 93) with Silverfish and Indust cemented my want for being in a band. I thought if they can do it, and they’re from Larne, why cant I?! A fairly naïve thought.
All the musicians that inspired me to start performing where drummers, I was a drummer first, guitarist second, singer/shouter last place. Fyfe from Therapy and John Stanier from Helmet would have been major influences for me. One day I’m gonna record a solo album with me on drums, just wait. It may be bad.
The last time all Dutch Schultz went to a gig together would have been a couple of years ago watching/listening to the Jesus Lizard in Dublin, great gig. It was the original line-up and we got a chance to meet’em after the show. I think them Lafaro noboids where there too.
Dutch Schultz would slag each others taste in music a fair bit, so we don’t collectively agree on much music being brilliant other than our own. However there are a few songs that we all agree are pure class and 1 track at the top of this list would be ‘Out in the Fields’, Lizzy with Gay Moore, brilliant!

If we could have absolutely anyone join our band, it would have to be someone with outstanding musical talent and vocal ability, an international superstar who could put new meaning to the term musical genius, when they’re gone it would be a day the music truly died. We’d choose Kylie Minogue.
We’ve only ever played one cover together, ‘Hard to Live’ by Kerbdog, we where asked to do something for a Kerbdog tribute album, go and buy it, its great and available through Stressed Sumo Records. Covers can be fun, but we’d rather spend time writing our own stuff, there’s much too much to be written!
Next time you’re watching the Mighty Schultz on stage, strutting around like wild beasts/wildebeests, pause for a moment, try and imagine what us animalistic gents do in the privacy of our own homes/flats/apartments when letting our hair down.
Well I actually prefer nothing better than building airfix models, World War 2 aircrafts are a favourite of mine… guilty as charged.
