Improvisation: something that is improvised, in particular a piece of music, drama, etc. created spontaneously or without preparation.

Nothing is spontaneous anymore. Trips to the supermarket are measured and masked, college courses are scheduled Zooms, and last minute nights out with friends are things we heard about our older brothers and sisters sneak in late from, every floorboard squeaking under stumbled tip-toes.

A night out. A gig. Seeing a piece of music performed live, improvised. Live drums, saxophones at deafening levels, drowning out the tedium of the last 18 months. Live music is back; Northern Ireland's premier jazz-punks, Robocobra Quartet, have announced an Irish tour beginning in The Workman's Club. Dublin on 1st September. Time to be part of the crowd again, as we rise together as a scene once more.

It takes a lot of preparation to improvise with the drama and showmanship of frontman/drummer Chris Ryan, who’s debut solo record under the name SORBET dropped earlier this year, worked on while producing the debut singles for Galway based alt-rock band NewDad. Highly acclaimed and particular pieces of music.

Robocobra Quartet's last release came in May 2021, a live EP called 'Live Tape #1'. It includes old favourites like 'Knotweed' and 'Wicker Bar', alongside clips of Chris at his most off the cuff and charming.

The full tour includes:

The Workman’s Club, Dublin - 1st September 2021

Roisin Dubh, Galway - 2nd September 2021

Kasbah Social Club, Limerick - 3rd September 2021
