This week, Niamh Hegarty joined Rigsy and Stu to discuss some new tunes…
The Vincent(s) – Opium Den Song
Niamh: “This is their brand new single and I just think they’ve gone from strength to strength in recent months. I love their quirky sound…probably one of my favourite local acts here (Cork).”
Biff N’ Wigs – Curious
Stu: “I thought it was pretty interesting. Some of the vocals remind me a bit of Robert Smith from The Cure.”
Meltybrains? – Green, Yellow & Purple
Niamh: “I went to see them in Dublin last week. I’ve never seen them live before and they kind of blew my mind…they’re just such accomplished musicians and up there as one of the most promising acts to emerge from Ireland recently.”
A Bad Cavalier – I’m A Wreck
Rigsy: “Primarily the work of Niall Kennedy, formerly of ATL favs Panama Kings, currently guitarist with And So I Watch You From Afar. This is a project for Niall that’s been on the go for a while…he’s been recording stuff while he’s been on the road and we’re delighted to be able to play this.”
Niamh: “I just think it’s a great pop tune. I was really surprised, I didn’t know what to expect.”
Stu: “I think he’s brilliantly rousing. I love his voice – I miss his voice!”
Val Normal – Pugman
Niamh: “ I just love this track, it has a lovely technicality about it.“
Faux – Dark Sky
Rigsy: “A young producer, Luke Hanna, who’s based in Belfast. He pitches himself as a creator of house music. I really, really like the feel of this track; lots of ideas going on.”
