Orchid Collective - Courage and Waited On The Sun (LIVE)

Wednesday 30th November, 2016

They say:
“We had a blast coming up to Belfast and being offered the opportunity to play on Across The Line. BBC Introducing is so important in this day in age for young aspiring artists and being invited to come up and play a few songs was such a buzz. Rigsy, Stuart and Jimmy and the whole ATL crew were a pleasure to work with and thankfully they like what we're doing at the moment.

We produced the EP with Rob Kirwan (U2/ Hozier) and he has a love for analogue gear, anything you hear on this record is mostly from the source. Dave's thoughts on the two songs are...

Courage:

It’s not usually something I would discuss as I strongly believe people take what they want from music and apply it to their own lives but, I guess it’s about a failed relationship and how unhealthy it can be to keep something going that’s obviously run it’s course. In a nutshell!

Waited On The Sun :

This song is about having a person in your life who is a very close friend within a very close-knit friend group, who behind doors and out of sight, is a lover of sorts. For want of a better word!

Shea who is an avid fan of delay is using vintage memory man delay pedals into spring reverbs and Hugh actually recorded all the bass guitar on Rick Seymour's (Crowded House) Fender Jazz.

The whole recording process was a complete learning experience for us and brought us to a new creative level. We are now touring the EP and we are having a blast playing the tracks live!

As David said in our interview; the Edge said at the BIMM Dublin Graduation, if you manage to make music that blows your own mind then it will most likely blow others' minds too. We thought that was good advice so its something we certainly try to do! ”

We say: “In this session, Orchid Collective displayed masterfully executed musical maturity; soaring, delay-laden guitar licks and arpeggios playing counterpoint to a backbone of tasteful percussion and emotive vocal harmonies. An exercise in rise and swell, peaks and troughs, the band's expertly honed sound filled every inch of Studio 8 completely. A joy from start to finish.”

Orchid Collective's self-released Courage EP is available to buy now, and you can watch a video of 'Courage' being performed live in session on the BBC Radio Ulster Facebook page.

As often as possible Across the Line aims to bring you a great new, recent or interesting track each day, Monday to Friday. To get your new music to Across the Line send it via the BBC Introducing Uploader.
