Record Store Day 2013

Across The Line

Tagged with:

Record Store Day! It’s like Christmas and a birthday rolled into one for indie music fans and it’s arrived once again. Now in its seventh year, Record Store Day is a chance for music fans across the world to pick up some of the over 450 special releases in their local record stores. Artists releasing material for RSD2013 include Kate Bush, David Bowie and The Undertones.

Record Store Day stared as a way for music fans to get together to celebrate and support their local shop. Record stores are an increasingly rare breed and they are so much more than shops. They are meeting places, debating chambers and also, yes ok, shops. We flipping love them.

We’ve compiled a rough guide to the happenings on this side of the Irish Sea. Get out there and meet your fellow music lovers.

Belfast:

Head Records is planning to open early, at 8am, and have organised a vinyl weekend which will see local venues hosting vinyl only sets all weekend. They will also have live DJs from midday.

Dragon Records will host acoustic sets from The Sons of Robert Mitchum and Protex.

Londonderry:

Cool Discs has announced their line-up which includes The Clameens, Our Krypton Son and Little Bear.

Dublin:

Tower Records will have live music from midday including Hot Sprockets, Ghost Estates and Sweet Jane

Also in Dublin, Record Store Gay will be happening. Now in its second year, it is a mini festival and pop up music shop at Outhouse, Capel Street. Dublin acts such as September Girls, Squarehead and French Bird will all be playing.

Our pals over at BBC Radio 6 Music will be keeping an eye on proceedings across the UK and bringing it all together here. You can get involved by using the #RSD13 hash tag.
