The Making Of - Dead Till Friday

Across The Line

Judging by their own sound, a mash up of rock, beats and hip hop, you can be sure Dead Til Friday have pretty varied tastes. But why speculate when ATL is hear to investigate? Here it is then, The Making Of...Dead Til Friday featuring, generously, three members of the band all talking at once!

(Jonny) The first record I bought that I can remember was ABBA 'Gold' (yes I'm serious) I've no idea why but it was in a pound shop and I couldn't resist. I think I was like 10 years old or something.

(Conhuir) My first record was Moloko - 'Do You Like My Tight Sweater?' Mostly because I liked the cover

(Steve) Spice Girls - 'Spice', I was only 12, don't judge me haha

(Jonny) The last record I bought, hmmm, in terms of physical copies, it was probably 'Blood Mountain' by Mastodon, between that and local ones that we play with. I also recently downloaded Hacktivist's self titled EP from iTunes, I guess that counts as buying right?

(Conhuir) Republic of Loose - 'Johnny Pyro and the Dance of Evil'

(Steve) Corellia - 'Nostalgia', really awesome prog-metal.

(Jonny) The first gig I remember going to and thinking "I wanna be in a band" was Trivium in the Ulster Hall around 2006, the next day coincidentally was the day of my first hangover! The atmosphere at the gig was something else and I thought to myself "I want this." That was it for me.

(Conhuir) - Ozzfest 2002 (Punchestown)

(Steve) Fightstar in the Spring and Airbrake, 2006

(Jonny)It's hard for me to think of any particular artist/performer that made me want to start playing but the first time I saw Metallica in like 2008, I decided I was going to keep playing and touring because, let's face it, it's better than working in an office.

(Conhuir) Les Claypool, I basically started playing because of him.

(Steve) For me it would have to be Ryan Phillips from Story of The Year.

The last gig that we were all at was Belsonic the night Skrillex played (I think) the details are sketchy but I think we definitely had a good time.

The last album we were all in to as a whole was probably Periphery II: 'This Time It's Personal…' It made us look at how records are put together in a different way and some of the guitar playing is on another level. But one act we constantly bond over would be Michael McDonald, the man's voice is just so damn smooth it hurts.

If we had to share the stage with one local act every night, it'd be impossible to choose, there's so many in Ireland it's crazy but MakingMonsters, The Rupture Dogs and Jackalfeud would be up there for sure. If we could choose anyone to join DTF, it would have to James Hetfield, purely for his guitar playing, the man knows how to play a good riff!

Back in the old days of DTF we used to cover 'My Own Summer' by Deftones, and 'Killing in The Name Of' by Rage Against The Machine. I think it was just a good fit for us because it was close to our usual style anyway and people seemed to enjoy it which was nice too I guess! the last cover version we tried is one we still play, 'Sweet Disposition' by Temper Trap although to be honest, I'd never heard the original one until we decided we were going to try and cover it. We ended up shooting a video and everything for it which was fun as well, we basically took over Conhuir's living room for the day with a green screen.

I think we can just take a look through Adam's iTunes and find a whole list of guilty pleasures there. Michael Bublé, Garth Brooks you name it. General rule is if it's cheesy, he likes it!
