This week Rigsy & Stuart are joined by Niall Byrne, AKA Nialler9, to chat through some of the new music to make its way to their ears this week

Pleasure Beach – Go

Rigsy: “…just a wonderful, wonderful track from Pleasure Beach…I think it’s 2/3rds of Yes Cadets re-inventing themselves”

Niall: “I listen to a lot of new music and when you hear a song like that, that is exciting and just straight out of the traps and just a great track, it’s very exciting to hear a band like that”

Night Trap – Someone Like You

Niall: “…there’s very much an 80’s synth-pop sound going on, that’s what they were inspired by and decided to make. I’m thinking of New Order in particular in this song…that’s from a double release on Little Gem Records out of Dublin

Absolution Inc – And She Sings

Stuart: “…That’s a very young act from Belfast…we’re just putting a marker down…they’ve got something, I saw them play live last week, very fresh, very young. A long way to go but a little bit of something about them…”

Elephant – Little Ghost

Niall: “…Body and Soul is probably my favourite festival of the summer, I was DJ’ing at it this year…our party had to be called to a halt because real bands were coming on and this (Elephant) were the first. Not a lot of music out there on-line but I hear that there’s a debut album on the way and I’ve caught two of his shows in the last month and I’ve just been really impressed by what he does….I’m really interested to hear what he’s going to do in future”

Slow Riot – City of Culture

Niall: “…a 3-piece from Limerick…what I really like about this is a lot of bands don’t really write about anything that really affects them in the real world. They have written a song about the status of Limerick as City of Culture. It’s good to hear that, bands reacting to things that are happening around them…”

Slackers Symphony – Outside

Stuart: “kind of messy, kind of enthusiastic, you’re never quite sure where it’s gonna go and hints of Nick Cave and Ian McCulloch in the vocals, cool stuff going on”

Bicep – Just

Niall: “What I love about this is I’ve been hearing it everywhere at festivals and out over the last month.

Rigsy: “…curating both the Boiler Room in Belfast and the AVA Festival…good to know that they’re making waves across the island and very much on the Nialler 9 playlist”

Civil Simian – What is This

Rigsy: “…from Belfast been making music under different guises before settling on Civil Simian…psychedelic future funk vibes on this. The track does change direction a couple of times, you should go and check it out…on the bill for Sunflower Fest later in the year”
