The first record I bought was Appetite for Destruction by Guns n Roses on vinyl! I think I was 11 or 12 years old at the time, there was an old record shop close to where I lived and the guy behind the counter told my mum that they were 'the next big thing' so she 'allowed me to waste' (her words not mine!) that particular weeks pocket money on it.
Years later, the last record I bought is (wait for it) Bruno Mars 'Unauthorised Jukebox'. You gotta be open minded right? Seriously though, the guy has soul and his melodies are fantastic!
I remember being at school and there was a concert on in the gymnasium, I guess the powers that be had booked a band called Haanna Affair to entertain us kids . Even though they were a cover band, I remember rather arrogantly thinking to myself at the time, that’s cool, but I could do better! From then on I wanted to be in a band. It was around that time a friend of mine had an old album called 'If You Want Blood' by AC/DC and every time I was at his house he would put it on and play it repeatedly to the point where we both could lip sync to every single word on that record. We posed in front of the mirror with a hair brush and acted out Bon Scotts performance and I guess that inspired me to do what I do.
The last gig we watched together was the support band we had at our last gig a few weeks ago in Derry/Londonderry, a good rock ‘n’ roll band called Falon. As a band we really have so many diverse tastes in music that when it comes to listening to something we can all agree to... well it never happens - we never can agree. So when we're on tour in the van it's usually a heated debate to get our individual CD preferences blasting out for the journey . Generally though, anything by Aerosmith results in peace breaking out in the van!
We been fortunate enough to play with our buddies The Answer a few times and it would be nice to share a stage with them every night, cool band and cool guys.
I remember trying an old AC/DC song as our first cover tune, but these days we like to drop The Cowboy song by Thin Lizzy into the set from time to time, it’s a great live song.
When there are 5 strong personalities in any band, it’s never going to be easy to agree which bands 'we are into', especially bands that are current, but personally I can listen to a bit of Carrie Underwood any day of the week , great vocalist !
I've never really thought of having a 6th member in our band but if M$R could pick anyone to join it would probably be Jimi Page or Slash or Joe Perry - a guitar hero of some kind....
