Social media threads are full of news of Oscar nominations, Golden Globes, the BAFTAS. It seems the excitement and glamour of awards season comes earlier each year, and there are none more exciting (for those who follow upcoming Irish artists) than the Choice Music Prize. This year’s shortlist has been announced and it’s a variable “who’s who” (for those who follow upcoming Irish artists) with ten strong contenders for album of the year.

Our very own Soak is up against some hearty competition, with her album ‘Grim Town’ needing a lucky punch against the heavyweight - and what is sure to be the winning album - Fontaines DC’s ‘Dogrel’.

All will be revealed (it’ll be ‘Dogrel’ - hey. we're not saying we necessarily agree) on March 5th.

The nominees for this year's prize are:

Daithi - L.O.S.S.

Mick Flannery - Mick Flannery

Fontaines D.C. - Dogrel

Girl Band - The Talkies

Jafaris - Stride

Junior Brother - Pull the Right Rope

Lankum - The Livelong Day

Soak - Grim Town

Maija Sofia - Bath Time

Sorcha Richardson - First Prize Bravery
