Time once again to go under the bonnet of an act familiar to the ATL playlists. This time, it's a key player in the electronica renaissance taking place up in Derry city. With such an interesting and unique sound, Ryan Vail is bound to have exquisite taste, right? Let's find out…

My first record that I bought was Jack Knife Lee - 'Cookies'. Still own it. Sounds amazing to this day! The last record I bought was John Talabot - 'Fin' on 12inch for £5 in the January sales. RESULT!

When I saw David Kitt play his 'Nightsaver' album in full in the Nerve Centre, that's what made me want to make music myself. One of the best gigs i was ever at. Richie Egan from Jape was another massive inspiration. He's always full of energy no matter how many peoples are at his gigs.

The last gig I was at was Tycho in the Stiff Kitten, Belfast. Was an amazing performance. Myself and Katie (Cosgrove, who performs onstage with Ryan) have been listening to Bobby Womack's the 'Bravest Man in the Universe' album recently. Really loving that 'Please Forgive Me' track. We always return to Air, though. Think we've everything they've done.

Little Bear are very cool people. Would love to get playing with them more. If we had to have one person join us live though, it'd be Grimes. She'd look well on stage with us.

The first cover we ever tried wasGorillaz - 'Melancholy Hill'. Last cover we done was John Lennons Xmas song. Turned out very Dark and Moody. Its on the soundcloud.

As for a guilty pleasure? Katies shouting Ben Howard at me. She's the boss.
