24th October 2003 Halloween at Dudley Castle By Martin Jeffrey from Fright Nights
| | | Dudley Castle |
| | Dudley Castle stands over the town on a great limestone hill, one of the highest points in the West Midlands. |
| | | Many people have visited the castle through the years and many believe they still linger to this day.
There are several ghosts that haunt the castle. A Grey Lady haunts the main grounds and old chapel. A medieval female spectre won a fancy dress competition in 1983!
But these ghosts are nothing compared to the spectre of the Black Monk. Dudley Zoo staff have seen him a number of times in the past few years, his presence is felt throughout the castle and sends shivers down the backs of visitors he passes by.
| | Can you see a ghost? | On Halloween night, paranormal experts, two mediums, a psychic artist, a hedgewitch and 30 members of the general public will be staying awake through the night to see if the advent of Halloween really does increase activity.
Dudley Castle is already the most haunted castle in the West Midlands with many people experiencing paranormal activity on a regular basis.
Earlier this year during one of our Fright Night events, 18 people witnessed four dark figures enter the undercroft through a closed door and then proceed to sit down in between the participants.
The thud of them sitting down was clearly heard and then they vanished! This is one of many sightings that have occurred during "normal" weekends but this is the first time we've stayed on Halloween night!
