June 30, 2006So here we are at what to some is known as the start of the season, the time the fixtures come out. These dates are key to some people whose year planning, weddings and other important events, can be based around them. As an Albion fan there was always only ever going to be one fixture to look for - Southend away. Only kidding. Of course it was only ever going to be the Wolves fixture that any Albion fan was going to look for. | | Will Mike 'Robin' Davis cope this year? |
Having not played them in five years, this match will be built up over the coming months and by the time Saturday 21st/Sunday 22nd October comes along, every Baggies fan and Wolves fan alike will be so nervous they won't know what to do with themselves. This fixture will provide undoubtedly our biggest two matches of the season with a home tie first and then a trip to Molineux in mid March. By then, it could well be a massive promotion clash with a lot more than just local pride at stake. Albion kick off their campaign with a home game against Hull City. This is the first time Albion have had a home match on the opening day of the season since... well, it's a long time ago, let's put it that way. And we seem to have a jinx early on with us never winning on day one. This will have to change as we need to 'hit the ground running', as Robson keeps stating. With John Hartson's signing confirmed and two more bids lodged (apparently), we finally look to be making progress on the transfer front. With only five weeks remaining until the start of the season, we need to make sure last season is completely out of the system and perform against some of our pre season challenges. Before then, I’m going to make the most of my five weeks of sanity whilst i still can. Once the season starts, you know there’s no escaping the fact that your feelings and emotions will be all over the shop for another year. |
