Who was the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)?

Description

The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was a merchant born in the city of Mecca. Muhammad was respected as he was a wise and fair businessman. Tradition says Muhammad escaped the busy city during the month of Ramadan and went to the mountains by himself to think. Muslims believe Allah chose Muhammad to be his Prophet because he was a fair and wise man and because he was concerned for the people.

Classroom Ideas

This clip could be used to demonstrate the key values of the Islamic faith, and how they might be put into action in people’s lives and communities.

Taking the story of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), students could first identify two key personality traits which are mentioned in the clip. What actions could make someone be perceived as wise and fair? Students could be given examples of personality traits such as ‘greedy’, ‘kind’, ‘thoughtful’, ‘caring’, ‘selfish’, ‘considerate’ and ‘angry’, and decide which words describe Muhammad (pbuh). Once these words have been identified, they could discuss how these traits show that he was a wise and fair person. Students could go on to share experiences when their friends have demonstrated any of these traits.
