How to calculate the change due from a £5 note when buying a train ticket. The ticket costs £2.20 and the lady pays with a £5 note at the ticket machine. The machine rapidly calculates the amount of change due and £2.80 is returned to the traveller.

Students could create a shop with various items. Students could be divided into buyers and sellers, and the buyers provided with £5 notes. The buyers could work out what they can afford to buy. The sellers must work out how much change is due and the buyers must check the change given to ensure it is the correct amount.
