The arrival of the Vikings in Scotland
Description
The Vikings arrived in Scotland in longboats, attacking buildings and people. They occupied large parts of the country including Dalriada. The Scotti moved into Pictland, where the Picts were too busy or weak to stop them taking over. Vikings killed the King of the Picts and his sons.
Classroom Ideas
Students could indicate the boundaries of Dalriada and Pictland on a map then point out all of the areas that the Vikings occupied. Students could research the Vikings and their decision to invade Scotland. Were all Vikings warriors? Students could discuss how different groups of people can be united against a common enemy.
