Lubaina Himid is a British artist. She was born in Zanzibar, Africa in 1954 and her family moved to the UK when she was four months old.

She studied theatre design and became excited finding ways to tell the stories that were missed from history.
In the 1980s Lubaina was part of the Black Arts Movement, which created opportunities for black artists to show their creations to the world.
Lubaina often creates artwork of black figures. She uses bold and bright colours with simple shapes and patterns.
Inspired by her theatre design training some of Lubaina's paintings are cut out on large pieces of wood.
She also paints on objects she has found to tell a story about them.
Lubaina Himid shows that sometimes, the most important stories are the ones people don't yet know.
