Upcycling is when we reuse old materials to turn them into something new and even more exciting.
Watch the video to see how you can build an upcycled robot out of things you might find around the house.
Hiya! Let’s turn old materials into something new and build a robot.
To make our robot, we are going to reuse things that we find around the house that we would otherwise recycle.
You need a big cardboard box for the body, a smaller cardboard box for the head, four kitchen roll tubes for arms and legs, some bottle caps for decorating and some masking tape to help put everything together.
Let’s get started. First, use the big box for your robot’s body. You can rip up masking tape like this or you can use scissors. Always ask an adult for help when using scissors.
Now, tape kitchen rolls at the top to make arms.
Then do the same at the bottom to make legs.
Hmm, something's missing! Oh yes, it needs a head. Tape a smaller box to the top for a head. Next, tape the bottle caps onto the head to make eyes.
Now, I’m going to make some control knobs by taping some more lids to its body.
What a cool looking robot! Don’t worry if yours isn’t perfect. It’s all about having a go and enjoying yourself.
Once your robot is finished, you can try painting it. I did another robot earlier and decorated it like this.
What else could you build? Let your imagination lead the way and have fun.
