How to make a paper collage

Hiya! Let’s use recycled paper to make a butterfly collage.

A collage is a picture made of lots of little pieces of paper.

Butterflies are very colourful, so we’ll need very colourful paper.

We’ll also need a pencil, a glue stick and a pair of scissors. Always ask an adult to help you when using scissors.

Okay, first draw a long body for your butterfly. Then a head with two little antennae - those things on the top.

Now, draw two big wings. In real life, butterfly wings are symmetrical which means they look the same on both sides. But don’t worry about that, yours are just going to be bright and colourful.

Now, pick up your scissors. Remember to have your thumb on top, like this. If scissors are too difficult, you can tear the paper.

Now, make lots of little pieces of paper.

Next, get your glue and spread it over part of a wing. Then stick the little pieces of paper on one at a time until you have covered the glue.

Then add some more glue and repeat until you have covered both wings with colourful paper.All done.

Isn’t it amazing how a collage can turn lots of little pieces of paper into one big picture!
