Zaha's building designs were often inspired by abstract art.
Her designs linked flowing curves with shapes you wouldn't normally see on a building and were very modern and unique.

But some people thought that they could not be built because they would be too expensive and very complicated.
Zaha didn't give up and eventually people started to understand her inspiring designs and how they could be made into buildings.
Her designs have now been built in many parts of the world.
By being a woman in a job that was mostly done by men at the time, Zaha Hadid inspired other women to become designers.

The building was inspired by moving water so it fits in well with the venue's location next to a river. Anyone can visit and swim inside the building now, even though it was built for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Image caption, Generali Tower is a skyscraper completed in 2017 in Milan, Italy. It is 191.5 meters tall with 44 floors. As it was designed by Zaha Hadid, it is also called Torre Hadid. It is one of the tallest buildings in the city and has a unique twist in the design. The twist gets less tight as the building gets taller, so that no two floors are completely in line with each other.

Image caption, This is the Sheikh Zayed Bridge in Abu Dhabi, named after the country's former president, who was called Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The bridge's curving arches were inspired by the desert. The arches are made of steel and are connected by blocks of concrete and steel cables. At night, 600 lights illuminate the bridge in changing colours, representing the mix of people living in the country.

Image caption, Shell and Shadow was a project for Nordpark Railway Stations in Innsbruck, Austria. It was inspired by natural ice forms. Zaha Hadid designed four of the stations along this line. The roofs of all four stations appear to float because of the materials used, they also reflect the passengers walking around them.
