What is climate change?

The Sun and the Earth

For some time, scientists have noticed changes in temperature on Earth.

In some parts of the world, summers are getting hotter.

Ice is melting from the Arctic and Antarctic.

Extreme weather events such as flooding and heatwaves are occurring more often in many places.

Many scientists believe this is due to climate change.

Climate change occurs due to natural changes in temperature on Earth but it is also affected by humans.

Reduce

Reducing waste is important as most waste ends up in landfills or even the sea.

One of the main things you might have seen to help reduce waste is less packaging on items, or instead of packaging made out of plastic, some is now made out of paper.

You could help to reduce waste by doing things such as using fewer plastic water bottles by refilling your own re-usable bottles.

Reuse

Reusing items helps to reduce waste as you reuse something over and over again - just like the water bottles.

Recycle

Recycling items means that they are reused instead of being thrown away and left to rot.

Many items can now be recycled such as:

  • Metal cans
  • Paper
  • Glass
  • Plastic bottles
  • Garden waste

All of these items can be recycled into either the same thing again or used to make new products.
