Marty is going to be working at the zoo for a whole year, that’s 365 days!
But once every week, that is once in every seven days, his cap gets stolen. How many caps is Marty going to need, Suki?
You could use short division to work it out.
Firstly three divided by seven doesn’t go. But 36 divided by seven goes five times, leaving a remainder of one.
Now move on to the 15, which divided by seven goes two times with a remainder of one.
The answer is 52, remainder one.
Hey Suki, why not round down as there are only 52 weeks in a year.
Marty is really pleased that you have enough caps, Suki.
But I wonder where they all end up.

Short division
If numbers are too difficult to divide in your head, use a written method.
Short division will sometimes give an answer with a remainder ®, which you can round up or round down.
To find the answer to 365 ÷ 7 see if 3 (the hundreds) can be divided by 7.
It cannot, so add the tens digit. 36 ÷ 7 = 5 r 1.
Write down the 5 and carry over the 1 so 5 becomes 15.
15 ÷ 7 = 2 r 1.
Write those numbers down. The answer is 52 r 1.
