A pattern, or sequence, is a set of numbers that are connected in some way. And the numbers in the sequence are called terms.
All sequences have a rule.
The numbers could count on by three each time, or the numbers could be doubled each time.
Take this sequence, the terms count on by a changing number. In this case the number changes by an extra one each time.
Some sequences are easier to figure out than others.
But as soon as you spot the rule, you can work out the pattern.

Number sequences
A number sequence is a list of numbers that are linked by a rule. If you work out the rule, you can work out the next numbers in the sequence.
In this example, the difference between each number is 6. So the rule for this sequence is to add 6 each time.
Now you can work out the next number in the sequence: 27 + 6 = 33
