The Friendship Code

Description

A group of children share their ‘Friendship Code’ describing what is important in having friends. They believe it is best to let friends play with others, make up after a disagreement, play kindly with new boys and girls and know that pals need time apart as well as together.

Classroom Ideas

A copy of the ‘Friendship Code’ could be displayed to students and they could be asked to consider whether they agree with all of these points. Students could then create their own friendship code in a circle time activity. Each student could say one sentence to describe an aspect of friendship that is important to them and this could be written down on a large sheet of paper. Once everyone has contributed the students will have their final friendship code which could be displayed around the classroom.

Alternatively, students could write their own acrostic poem using the letters of the words ‘friend’ or ‘friendship’, describing what is important to them in this relationship.
