Just in time, Al Gebra Private Detective comes to his rescue and shows him how he can avoid being taken to the cleaners by Dodgy Doug, and still get the money to buy the printer he needs to start his business.

Similar problems on borrowing could be set in order to demonstrate how quickly interest mounts up. A very suitable topic for an investigative task in Numeracy or even P.S.E. Students could be asked to use the internet to investigate how much they would end up paying on a loan (eg £1,000 for 12 months) with various banks or loan companies.
