The end of Empire

One of the first African countries to declare independence from Britain was Ghana, in 1957. This paved the way for other African countries to declare independence.

By the 1600s, Britain and France were fighting for control over several Caribbean islands. Over 300 years later, islands in the Caribbean began to declare their independence.
