Basic problems in time management and time intervals can be solved by calculations. This may involve changing decimal time to hours and minutes.
Part ofApplications of MathsMeasure
If you get a decimal answer after doing a calculation, you need to change from decimal time to actual time to write down time correctly.
For example if you get an answer on your calculator of \(3.5hrs\) you should write it as \(3\frac{1}{2}\,hrs\) or \(3hrs 30 mins\).
Write \(4.2 mins\) in minutes and seconds.
\(4.2 mins = 4 mins + 0.2 mins\)
\(0.2\,of\,a minute = 0.2\,of\,60 secs\)
\(0.2 \times 60 secs = 12 secs\)
So \(4.2 mins = 4 mins 12 secs\)
Write \(6.85 hrs\) in hours and minutes.
\(6.85 hours = 6 hours + 0.85 mins\)
\(0.85\,of\,an\,hour = 0.85\,of\,60 mins\)
So \(6.85 hours = 6 hours 51 minutes\)
