Examine the three sources of authority of the Catholic Church. Explore what Jesus teaches about morality, including love and forgiveness and the different approaches to decision making.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation, otherwise known as confession, is usually first received at the age of seven or eight before First Holy Communion.
When the sacrament is received the priest, acting on behalf of God, will forgive the sins that have been confessed. The priest will then give a penanceVoluntary act of punishment to show regret for a wrongdoing.. A penance may consist of:
prayers
an act of kindness
an act of reparationRepairing the damage done through crime.
both an act of kindness and reparation
The premise is that the person confessing the sins promises to try not to commit the sin again. A sin cannot be committed under the premise that it will simply be forgiven.
This sacrament can be received as often as deemed necessary, and there is no maximum number of times that the sacrament can be received.
