Fusion reactor
A Fusion reactor would be an ideal way of generating electrical energy. It would work by combining isotopes of hydrogen. Although being able to create large amounts of electrical energy would be beneficial for modern society, there are also some major difficulties. In order for the reaction to take place there needs to be an incredible amount of energy. Once the reaction has begun, it can be sustained but the atoms that fuse form a plasma which is at a temperature of millions of degrees.
This plasma has to be contained and done so by using a very strong magnetic field.
Research is currently being undertaken in this area and if it was to be successful it would make a major impact in addressing the planet’s energy needs.
