The National 5 P.E. course is assessed in two parts. Portfolio tests your knowledge and understanding of the theoretical components of the course. Performance involves you being assessed in two different activities.

Performance

The Performance component of the course involves you being assessed in two different activities.

Both of these assessments are considered a 'one-off'; you are assessed in a single performance event and how you perform on that day determines your score.

Each of these assessments are scored out of 30 marks. You will be assessed in the following areas:

Skill repertoire (8 marks):

  • what range of skills and techniques do you perform?

Control and fluency (6 marks):

  • how well do you perform each of these skills and techniques?

Cognitive skills (6 marks):

  • to what extent do you problem solve and make effective decisions in your performance?

Tactical understanding (6 marks):

  • how well do you perform your role and responsibilities within team activities? In individual activities, how well do you play to your strengths and exploit opponent weaknesses?

Rules and regulations (2 marks):

  • how well do you follow the written and unwritten laws of the activity?

Controlling emotions (2 marks):

  • how well do you handle emotional sub- factors such as anger, fear and resilience during your performance?
