Over 20 000 people attended his funeral in Vienna, which indicated his popularity as a composer at that time.

Today, most people will be familiar with Für Elise and the Moonlight Sonata from hearing them on films or samples in , such as in the song I Can by Nas.

The Piano Concerto No.1 in C major is still regularly played in concerts, including at the BBC Proms in 2015 - 214 years after it was first performed by Beethoven.
