Gam or gad?

Learners of Gaelic often have difficulty knowing when to use the augmented preposition in a statement. For example, if you wanted to say in Gaelic:

  • Anne is meeting me at six o' clock.

You would say:

  • Tha Anna gam choinneachadh aig sia uairean.

When you say gam choinneachadh you are saying meeting me, but literally you are saying 'at my meeting'. This is proper Gaelic sentence structure.

You should not be tempted to use English order in Gaelic.
