Part ofHistoryGermany

(Source) Explain why... (5 marks)

Example:

The Eternal Jew Poster

Study Source B. Explain why this source was published in Germany at this time.

Source B (right) - The Eternal Jew, Poster.

A poster published in 1937 to promote an exhibition called ‘The Eternal Jew’, which is what the text at the bottom of the poster says.

Tips:

To answer this question well you need to:

  1. Use the content of the source. Annotate it on your exam paper. What message does it give people about Jews in Germany? How does it get this message across?
  2. What is the purpose of the source? Who is it aimed at? What is it trying to get them to think or feel? Look at the date and consider the intended aim of the poster.
  3. Use contextual knowledge - what do you know about the subject matter? You need examples of that happened in Germany in this period to show your understanding.
