Credibility of miracles
You cannot have a miracle without faith
| Agree | Disagree |
| Faith is always necessary for healing in the gospels - we can see this every time Jesus healed someone. | Miracles strengthen faith. Therefore the miracle has to happen first and then a person will trust and have faith. |
| It was their faith in Jesus that made people well – eg a woman with a haemorrhage showed faith and her faith saved her Prayer strengthens a person’s belief, allowing miracles to happen | People today require proof in order to have faith. |
| Today, people have faith in medical staff that they know what they are doing when we are in their care. | People find it hard to have faith in a world of suffering and strife. |
| Miracles take place today when we have faith - eg there have been 69 certified cures in Lourdes. | Some may find it hard to accept that miracles happen and consider it to be luck or a coincidence |
| Many Christians believe miracles are possible but they cannot be expected. | |
| Having great faith does not mean miracles always happen. | |
| Our knowledge of science tells us that miracles didn’t happen. For example, Jairus’ daughter was probably in a diabetic coma. |

Miracles still happen today

| People have been written off by doctors who say that they only have a certain length of time to live. Yet some of these people have made a full recovery. | For a lot of so-called miracles of Jesus there is a logical or scientific explanation. For example, the boy with the evil spirit maybe had epilepsy and Jairus’ daughter was probably in a diabetic coma. |
| There have been 69 cases in Lourdes where science and medicine cannot explain why the person has made a full recovery. These people have been healed because of their faith in the miraculous water of Lourdes. | People rely on doctors and medical treatments because they know they can cure them. It’s a waste of money going to a site of a miracle because they just don’t happen. |
| Jesus performed miracles to people in the past who had faith and prayed. This shows that miracles do exist. | People today do not place any importance on religion anymore so they don’t have faith or pray, therefore miracles can’t happen. |
