Question
A family of two adults and two children wish to go on holiday during low season. They can stay for either seven or ten nights. Calculate the possible costs of their stay and recommend which hotel they should choose.
1. Calculate the cost for two adults and two children for all options.
Paradise Park
Seven nights:
2 (adults) × £180 = £360.
The two children go free.
Ten nights:
2 (adults) × £205 = £410.
The two children go free.
Sunset Soleil
Seven nights:
2 (adults) × £120 + 2 (children) × £65.
= £240 + £130 = £370.
Ten nights:
= 2 (adults) × £130 + 2 (children) × 70.
= £260 + £140 = £400.
2. Compare the prices and make your recommendations.
- If the family are staying for seven nights they should choose Paradise Park for £360
- If they are staying for ten nights they should choose Sunset Soleil for £400
Question
Sarah is booking a 7-day holiday to the French town Marseille. The flight time is two hours. Although there is a time difference between the UK and France, there is no need to consider this as part of the question.
The holiday must meet the following requirements:
- Must leave after 10 August
- Must fly from a London airport
She would like as many of the following conditions to be met:
- To fly from London Heathrow
- Arrival time before 2pm
- Room to have a sea view
Recommend which option(s) Sarah should choose.
1.Package A leaves before 10 August. This doesn't satisfy requirement 1 so we can remove this from our options.
2.Package D leaves from Manchester so we can remove this option as it doesn't fulfil requirement 2.
3. For the remaining three packages, evaluate which preferences they meet.
Package B – From Heathrow? No
- Departs at 10:15 so arrives at 12:15 – Arrives before 2pm? Yes
- Sea view room – Le Jardin? No
Package B meets one additional requirement.
Package C – From Heathrow? Yes
- Departs at 15:30 – Arrives before 2pm? No
- Sea view room – La Fête? Yes
Package C meets two additional requirements.
Package E- From Heathrow? Yes
- Departs at 11:45 so arrives at 13:45 – Arrives before 2pm? Yes
- Sea view room – Le Jardin? No
Package E meets two additional requirements.
4. Final recommendation – Sarah should choose either Package C or E as these meet the basic requirements and two additional preferences.
