Business location and site - EduqasChoosing a site within a specific region
Business owners have to consider a number of things when choosing a location for their business. These include the type of business and how close they need to be to their customers, labour, materials and competitors.
Once a business has chosen a region, they need to choose a specific site.
This decision can be based on a number of factors such as:
Ease of access to the site – customers and employees need to be able to access the location. This includes access by road and public transport and the availability of parking.
Footfall – this is a measure of how many people walk past a particular location.
Costs – this could be the cost of rent or purchasing the property. It can also include the business rates and utility costs.
Proximity to customers – this is how near the site is to potential customers. For some businesses this is a very important factor. Some businesses choose to locate near to their competitors such as areas of restaurants and bars.
Personal reasons – the owner of a business may choose a business based on their family or other links to the area.
