What is software?
Hardware is the physical parts of the computer and software is the programs that run on a computer.
There is a close relationship between The physical parts of a computer system, eg a graphics card, hard disk drive or CD drive. and The programs, applications and data in a computer system. Any parts of a computer system that aren't physical.. Without software, hardware is very limited and without hardware, software would not be able to run. They need each other.
Software makes hardware useful. It gives it the A single action that can be performed by a computer processor. it needs to operate. When hardware runs software, it loads the software into its Random access memory. This is volatile memory that is constantly being written to and read from. It does not retain its contents without a constant supply of power. When a computer is turned off, everything stored in its RAM is lost..
There are two main types of software:
