We use different words when counting people in Irish.

Can you count up to twelve people in Irish? Déan cuntas go dtí a dó dhéag.

duine amháin - one person

beirt - two people

triúr - three people

ceathrar - four people

cúigear - five people

seisear - six people

seachtar - seven people

ochtar - eight people

naonúr - nine people

deichniúr - ten people

aon duine dhéag - eleven people

dáréag - twelve people

Ordinal numbers

Ordinal numbers tell us the position of something.

For example, first, second or third.

We also use these in Irish to indicate dates.

For example, an seachtú lá mí Feabhra - the seventh of February

an dara - second

an triú - third

an ceathrú - fourth

an cúigiú - fifth

an séú - sixth

an seachtú - seventh

an t-ochtú - eighth

an naoú - ninth

an deichiú - tenth

an t-aonú lá déag - the eleventh day

an t-aonú lá is fiche - the twenty-first day
