Angles in triangles and quadrilateralsAngles in a kite

Angles inside a shape are called interior angles. Interior angles in a triangle add up to 180°. Interior angles in a quadrilateral add up to 360°.

Angles in a kite

A kite is symmetrical. So it has two opposite and equal angles.

A is made up of two isosceles triangles joined base to base.

Its diagonals are not equal but the longer one cuts the shorter in half at \(90^\circ\).

A kite with dotted lines from corner to corner, showing a right angle where the lines cross. It has one pair of equal angles, coloured green.

Question

For this kite we are given an angle of \(40^\circ\). What is the value of \(y^\circ\)?
