Never Let Me Go sample exam question

There are several things to keep in mind when answering the extract based question:

  1. Read the extract more than once to make sure you have fully understood it.
  2. When you are reading the extract you should highlight the key words and phrases that will help you to answer the question.
  3. Make sure that any quotes you include in your answer are brief and to the point. Quotes should support your answer but should not be too long.
  4. Your answer to the extract-based question should only focus on the actual extract. Do not comment on other parts of the novel as you will not receive any marks for doing so.

The format of the exam (OCR)

In the OCR exam on Never Let Me Go, which is part of Paper 2: exploring modern and literary heritage texts, you will be presented with a question in two parts and with two extracts.

Part (a) will ask you to compare an extract from Never Let Me Go with an extract from another modern ‘unseen’ text.

Part (b) will ask you to answer a linked question on Never Let Me Go only. You can use the extract to help you.

In this guide, we will focus on writing about Never Let Me Go using an extract. On the next page of the guide, you can find further support on how to compare texts and how to write about ‘unseen’ extracts.
