Fin, Snoot and Plimble try different ways to divide up their destructor bots.
NARRATOR: Hello Snoot.
SNOOT: (ALIEN LANGUAGE)
I like your destructor bots.
Ah look, it’s Fin and Plimble.
PLIMBLE: Plimble!
NARRATOR: Have you come to play?
Snoot, why don’t you share out destructor bots between 3 of you, so you can all play?
NARRATOR: Come on, Snoot.
It’ll be much more fun with 3.
SNOOT: (ALIEN LANGUAGE)
NARRATOR: So, there’s 3 of you, and there’s 12 destructor bots altogether.
So you need to work out, how many times does 3 go into 12?
The answer is 4.
FIN: (ALIEN LANGUAGE)
NARRATOR: I see you’re not satisfied Fin.
Do you want to have a go at dividing them up?
As there’s 12 bots and 3 of you, you prefer to take away 3 from 12 until you’ve got none left.
1 group of 3…
2 groups of 3…
3 groups of 3…
4 groups of 3.
That makes 1… 2… 3…
4 groups of 3 altogether, which means 12 divided by 3 equals 4.
BOTH: Aha!
NARRATOR: That’s a really great way of working it out.
To find out what 12 divided by 3 equals, just keep taking away 3 from 12 until you’ve got none left.
The amount of times you can take away is the answer: this time, 4.
Now then, let’s play.
I’ll count down from 3.
Everyone ready?
3… 2…
Bit quick on the draw there Plimble…
PLIMBLE: Plimble!
How can subtracting help you divide?
If you have to divide a number you can get the same answer by taking away the number you are dividing by over and over again.
Example
What is 10 ÷ 2?
Find the answer by taking 2 away from 10 again and again until you can't do it any more.
10 - 2 = 8
8 - 2 = 6
6 - 2 = 4
4 - 2 = 2
2 - 2 = 0
You have taken 2 away 5 times. So 10 ÷ 2 = 5
How can adding help me with subtracting?
While juggling, Fin and Snoot learn that subtraction is the opposite of addition.

How can an array help me with division? video
Fin, Snoot and Plimble are fishing on the lake. They use division to share out their bait.
