New for 2004 are classes in Sindarin, the elvish language. Tolkien fans could find out about how it was devised as well as learning to converse in it, with local teacher Zainab Thorp.
This year there was also a chance to go inside Perrott's Folly, one of the Two Towers, as part of the bus tours visiting Tolkien related sites led by Hall Green Librarian and Tolkien expert Mike Reed.

Children could take a ride on the Miniature Steam Railway from the Birmingham Society of Model Engineers, or take part in a large scale role play fantasy games. They also made wizard wands, mini Ents (walking tree people) and a huge building block tower.
Visitors took themed walking tours "in the footsteps of Tolkien" or visited the Bog and enjoyed one of the excerpts from Lord of the Rings performed by local theatre company Shire Productions.

In the recreation ground next to the Mill there was a Viking settlement with Dark Age Vikings demonstrating life from 800 BC and War of the Roses re-enactments with the Fauconberg Household.
Though born in South Africa, Tolkien grew up in Sarehole and Moseley, attending King Edward's School in Birmingham. Sarehole Mill and the Moseley Bog were hugely inspirational on the young Tolkien.
