Artsfest makes another stop at The Mailbox!

A variety of free performances and workshops will be taking place in the public space at The Mailbox this weekend. It's not to be missed!

Artsfest is spreading itself all over Birmingham and once again The Mailbox will be hosting a variety of exciting and vibrant performances and workshops. Come along this weekend 15th-16th September 2007, where you can all take part for free!

Saturday 15th September 2007

12.00-12.30 Barry Hunt workshop - A guitarist, singer and songwriter, Barry specialises in teaching guitar to beginners and improvers. He also runs song-writing workshops.

1.00-1.30 Aashiyana Arts Bhangra workshop - Lead by Sohan Kailey, a specialist in Bhangra dance who delivers regular classes and workshops in Birmingham. He works as a dance artist for Dudley Performing Arts.

2.00-2.30 James Rea - A singer and songwriter from Birmingham who writes songs about situations around him and that have happened to him. He has just completed his first album.

3.00-3.30 Pollie Gilbert - She tells stories from around the world of creation myths, gods and godesses and traditional folk stories. These can enjoyed by the whole family.

4.00-4.30 Poetry Wednesbury - Published performance poets, as well as crafted Black Country dialect verse. The organisation provides a platform for poets in the area to perform, dicuss their work and have it published.

5.00-5.30 Venemiss - A 17yr old street dancer incorporating a flavour of Latin American bollywood and breakdance. She runs her own dance group called Strictly Street.

1.00-1.30 Julie Ann- Magic box storytelling. She is a professional actress with her own theatre company called Intimate Productions. She bringers her stories to all ages from children to adults and uses it as a tool to educate.

2.00-2.30 Music In Motion - The workshop will involve teaching people to sign the lyrics of popular songs. The group compromises deaf, hard of hearing and hearing people who compliment each others communication skills.

3.00-3.30 Royal Shakespeare Company - Warm Up. The company will lead a warm up that they would do before they perform. The company focuses on work by Shakespeare, other renaissance dramatists and contemporary writers.

Strictly Street

4.00-4.30 Element Dance Brazil - Two or more short traditional samba dance pieces will be performed. They are a traditional and urban latin dance comapny based in Birmingham, Leeds and London.

5.00-5.30 UK Base - Music and dance performances with a mix of hip hop, r&b and soul. It is the fastest growing label in Birmingham combining singers, rappers and dancers. They have supported celebrities such as Missy Elliot, Jodeci and Jagged Edge.

The public space is located on the ninth floor in The Mailbox. It is on the left opposite Nando's.
