Traditional English favourites like bangers and mash, cream teas, pastries and hot roast were available to satisfy the hungriest of patriots. Families and friends relaxed and enjoyed their food on outdoor picnic style seating while taking in the live entertainment. Children’s EntertainmentA 50ft inflatable dragon slide, complete with moving jaws and snorting smoke, kept young daring knights entertained, alongside a traditional carousel and face painters were on hand to get children in the St George’s Day spirit. Victoria Square and Chamberlain Square were jam-packed with the best of English entertainment. Starting the day in Chamberlain Square were the Claro Sword dancers, followed by Birmingham's own Jockey Men Morris Dancers. Getting the crowd dancing were the colourful Donna Marie (Miss Maypole) and her Maypole dancers, and more energetic entertainment came from Kesteven Rapper, a traditional men's dance group.  | | Maypole dancers |
The Sovereign Brass Band and Male Voice Choir belted out Land of Hope and Glory, The Dam Busters and other favourites while the crowd sang along and waved England flags proudly. The concert was also broadcast live on the BBC Big Screen from Chamberlain Square. Compered by Professor Carl Chinn MBE, the line-up included Massed Male Voice Choirs, Sovereign Brass Band, Fret and Fiddle (Birmingham's only Hot Gypsy Swing Band), Laurie Hornsby and Sharron Burns (Soprano).
