A day of free, live entertainment, music and dance took place in Chamberlain and Victoria Squares on Sunday 23 April to celebrate the Patron Saint of England. Hundreds of people turned out to see Morris Dancers, watch an English Ceilidh and even have their face painted. We asked: What does St. George's Day mean to you? Darren Toney and Kelly Truman: | | Les Hunt - all dressed up |
"I think there should definitely be a national holiday for St. George. We're pleased to see so many people getting in the mood here today. We're just going to chill out and go with the flow..." Carl Morgan: "I think it's time English people made a stand about being English. We should be allowed to celebrate our great country. It's a day when English men and women can be united." "I'm proud to be an Englishman. And I'm proud to come from Birmingham - the best city in the world! I'm pleased that Birmingham put together the facilities for us all to enjoy today - I think it's brilliant." The Bishtons: "We're very proud to be English and we're really enjoying our day out. We missed all the fun last year so it's great to really feel a part of the celebrations this year. It's a good day." |
