Kieran Trippier's bet with Michael van Gerwen could land him a free dinner

These people promised to do silly things - from tattooing their bums to getting them out on telly - and then had to stick to their pledge...
Fresh off the back of Spurs' last minute 1-0 win over Burnley on Saturday, Tottenham's Kieran Trippier and Danny Rose celebrated by catching some of the action at the PDC World Darts Championships.
Following the evening's entertainment, the footballers caught up with Dutch darts legend Michael van Gerwen, who had just made it through to the second round after beating Alan Tabern 3-1.
Trippier's attentions quickly turned from celebrating van Gerwen's success with the man himself to the two discussing the Uefa Nations League campaign. The upshot? A bet has been made. So confident is Trippier of England's chances when they take on The Nertherlands on 6 June 2018, he has promised that if England end up losing the encounter he will pay for van Gerwen's dinner at a high-end Italian restaurant in Mayfair.Â
So what did van Gerwen have to lose by shaking on it? If The Netherlands lose the semi-final, he'll be the one coughing up for the meal.

We'll have to wait a few months to see what the result will be, but while neither will want to be left with a hefty restaurant bill, other athletes and fans have faced a much bigger price to pay after making some bad predictions...

In May, snooker's Mark Williams fulfilled a promise he’d made in the World Championship by turning up to the post-final press conference entirely in the nuddy. This was on condition of him winning the tournament.
Perhaps he never thought he’d have to honour that pledge – his last world championship win was 15 years ago and he considered retiring after failing to qualify for the Crucible last year. He sealed a dramatic 18-16 win over John Higgins to win his third world title at age 43 in this year's event.
A testament to naked ambition, you might say.
Garry Monk pays for fan to get backside tattoo of his face
Birmingham City fan Kevin Tomlinson had vowed that, if the Blues beat Fulham in their last game of the 2017-18 Championship season, he would adorn his rear end with a permanent image of manager Garry Monk’s face.
It seemed like a safe (albeit strange) bet to make - after all, promotion-chasing Fulham had recorded more than double the number of wins that relegation-threatened Birmingham had managed.
Well, well. The game finished 3-1 to Birmingham, confirming their Championship survival and saving City's backsides - well, everyone except one fan. Mr. Monk himself put his hand in his pocket.
So did Garry Monk have to request a refund? Nope.

The fan duly went under the needle with Birmingham City calling the end result a "masterpiece" and their manager even signing it.Â

Another case of ‘if x does y, I’ll permanently ink my backside with an image of someone else’s face’. In this case, the condition was Arsenal signing Alexandre Lacazette.
Unfortunately, some people spotted similarities between the tattoo and another top striker…

It was an improbable dream that became a glorious reality. We are of course talking about Leicester City’s 2015-16 Premier League title win – not the chance to see Gary Lineker in his undercrackers. Nevertheless, the two are now intertwined forever.Â

In December 2015, when Lineker made his big claim, there was absolutely no chance of Leicester doing it. Was there? Well fast forward a few months and they did of course hold up their end of the bargain. Lineker duly followed (birthday) suit.Â
Genie Bouchard makes a date with destiny
Super Bowl LI saw the New England Patriots perform the largest comeback in Super Bowl history, external. Trailing by 25 points (28-3) to the Atlanta Falcons during the third quarter, they ended up winning the game 34-28.
Did Canadian tennis star Genie Bouchard jinx it?
Are they actually dating now though? Here’s what Genie had to say on NFL Canada…
