It's finally official. Darren Till will take on number-one welterweight contender Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson in the main event of UFC Fight Night in Liverpool.

When the Liverpool event was announced on weigh-in day ahead of UFC London two weeks ago, Till stated that Thompson would be his first-choice opponent for his main event bout.

And the UFC has granted him his wish, with the two-time welterweight title challenger signing on the dotted line to face Till in the Brit's own back yard on 27 May at The Echo Arena.

Liverpool’s Till surged to prominence with a stunning first-round stoppage of UFC legend Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone in Gdansk, Poland last October.

Now the undefeated Brit has the chance to propel himself into championship contention by handing Thompson - who twice took current champion Tyron Woodley the distance in title fights - the third loss of his professional career.

Speaking about the potential matchup during a media session at UFC London, Till said he'd relish the opportunity to prove his striking credentials against the man widely considered to be the best striker in the division - and one of the best in the UFC.

"He’s such a good striker," Till admitted.

"He’s intelligent. He’s not a brawler. It’s well thought-out, the process of his fighting. Mine’s the same.”

And the confident Liverpudlian said he plans on putting on a show and finishing the American in decisive fashion.

“I know I can outsmart him,” he said.

“I don’t want to beat him over five rounds. I want to knock him out. I want to devastate his life."
